Kang In, Vicente, transfers and a possible European SuperLeague

The VCF Director General revealed several interesting sporting developments in his Tuesday press conference

Several sporting matters involving Valencia CF were addressed by Director General Mateu Alemany in his Tuesday press conference, in which he was asked about the futures of various players, strategies ahead of next season and also about the possible departure of Vicente Rodriguez from his role in the Sports Management department.

"I spoke with Vicente this morning, and we are in the process of cancelling his contract. His personal and professional ambitions mean that he has told us that he wishes to leave Valencia CF for a period of time. He has been cordial with us and we will be able to reach an agreement soon. We hold Vicente in high regard; he is an important person in Valencia CF's history, and we will reach an amicable agreement with him," said the VCF spokesman.

Questioned about the transfer plan for the summer, Alemany commented that "Our obligation is to be in the market. Our idea is to work with young, quality players -especially if they are in the Spanish market. We are signing players who, although they might not be ready for the first team, are close to 18 years old and have talent. If you have to bring in quality players, you either sign them young or they will have already reached LaLiga. You have to be ahead of their price tags. At the end of this season we will have to sell players."

As for the VCF Academy teams, Alemany was clear:

"We would prefer that VCF Mestalla stay in Segunda B. We know that it is a tough division, and even more so if you play in it with young players. We changed coaches in order to help stay in this division.

"There will be more changes at the VCF Academy, but always with the idea of improving with a professional vision: A vertical vision and not a horizontal one. We are looking for players, not teams."

On the subject of young players, he was asked about the future of Kang In, who was brought up to the first team in January.

"Kang In is an extraordinary player, and that's why we've done what we've done with him. He's a young player who we are shaping. When he has had minutes, he's made the most of them. He moved up to the first team because that was in his contract, and it elevated his buyout clause. He had the right to choose between the first team or VCF Mestalla, and he chose the first team."

In a more left-field question, Alemany's opinion on a possible European SuperLeague was requested:

"We have read various reports about different formats. Valencia CF believe that changing the format of LaLiga, with the social and economic factor and the value of TV rights, would be difficult at this time. We need to know whether it would be a SuperLeague or a Champions League with more teams from the best leagues -or to placate other teams who don't participate in that competition due to UEFA policies. Modifying LaLiga could be very dangerous and damaging to the interests of Valencia CF."
